The Tauranga Transport Network Group is always on the lookout for ways in which we can improve the safety of school bus services. This term and into term 4, the Group will be conducting a trial of CCTV equipment to determine whether it presents an opportunity to improve the delivery of bus services and assist in resolving complaints.
The Group has installed a series of cameras in one of Uzabus’ school vehicles and will activate the system on 13 September 2021. The trial will run for eight weeks. The vehicle may be shifted between routes in order to test how useful the system is on different routes and with varying numbers of students. Students and drivers will be able to identify that their bus is part of the trial through the use of signage on the vehicle.
You can read the Group’s CCTV policy below. You can also use the contact points on this website if you want to share your thoughts on the trial and the use of CCTV on school buses.
